PODCAST – Every leap year gives rise to funny celebrations all over the world. We’ll explain it to you.
It is an immutable ritual, which returns every four years. And 2024 will be no exception to the rule. This year, you should not count 365 days in the calendar, but 366, a leap year requires. The reason for this change? To understand this, we have to go back to ancient Rome, when it was discovered that the Roman calendar was not aligned with the solar year. Julius Caesar therefore had the idea of creating an alternative, more in line with the rotation of the planet. After some trial and error, the idea was taken to add an extra day every four years.
A special day which apparently inspired a few countries. In Ireland, women can propose marriage to their loved one. Although this tradition may make you smile today, it was still adopted by neighboring cultures, such as in Scotland, Denmark or Finland, where men refusing this request were even required to pay a tax! February 29 is also celebrated in France, where there is a tradition there too. Do you want to know which one? Our journalist, Julie Malo, tells you everything in our podcast Travel Questionsto discover below.
