In Iran, Homa, Mazyar and Taghi were arrested, questioned and imprisoned. Now exiled in France, they recount the hell of the jails of the Islamic Republic. Under the eye of Franco-Iranian filmmaker Mehran Tamadon, they reconstruct their memories. In Parisian warehouses and cellars, they reenact years of torture and isolation with lost voices and bodies. They tell of resistance when hope dries up and the pain of torture, the pain that bruises the feet following the incessant cable hits. At the Film Festival and International Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH), in Geneva, Mehran Tamadon will present his documentary, Where God is not, which will be followed by a discussion in the presence of Taghi Rahmani, one of the protagonists. This documentary works as a diptych with its film My Worst Enemy, presented last year at the Visions du Réel festival. In Where God is not, Homa, Mazyar and Taghi make the public understand what is hidden behind the doors of Iranian prisons. Mehran Tamadon decided to address his film directly to the executioners.

In a cellar where Taghi Rahmani, the husband of the still incarcerated Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi, tirelessly retraces the 100 steps of his isolation, Mehran Tamadon insists: with this film, he wants to speak to the inner voice of the torturers, to shake them, make them hate each other. Taghi Rahmani, who spent 5,000 days in prison, looks at him smiling. Why would the interrogators hate each other? “They are doing their duty.”
