“The survey results of the new stock barometer presented today, Friday, impressively confirm that securities now have a firm place in Austria, they have arrived at the center of society,” says Franz Rudorfer, managing director of the federal banking and insurance division in the Austrian Economic Chamber ( WKÖ), pleased. “With 27 percent of people in our country having already invested in securities and a further 21 percent who are interested in doing so, the result speaks for itself: almost one in two people is now connected to the securities market.”

Rudorfer further emphasizes: “It is particularly noteworthy that almost half of the investors invested amounts of less than 5,000 euros in 2023. This shows that the capital market is increasingly being used as a lever for broad wealth creation.” And further: “It is also noteworthy that young people in particular are not only discovering the capital market, but have also come to appreciate it.” This proves that the coordinated measures on financial education in Austria are beginning to bear fruit.

“People in Austria are increasingly recognizing the importance of securities for long-term wealth creation and inflation protection. In this way, you can take precautions and at the same time use your dispositions to help support climate transformation. However, in order to further promote and sustainably strengthen this positive development, appropriate legal framework conditions are also required. With appropriate incentives, such as an exemption from capital gains tax if a retention period is adhered to, billions can be mobilized for the transformation via the capital market. This also requires an exemption from insurance tax for life insurance as well as relief for products from pension and company provision funds,” said Federal Division Managing Director Rudorfer.
