How much can a pack of chocolate cost? Reddit users complain regarding the extremely steep price of a variation of Ferrero’s chocolate vouchers.

Munich – Inflation doesn’t stop at anything: not gas, rent or even food. Chocolate is also becoming more expensive. But what a customer saw in a supermarket made him forget his desire for sweets. An 89-gram pack of “Kinder Schoko Bons Crispy” cost an impressive 10.99 euros, which means a kilo price of 123.48 euros. Another supermarket customer was recently shocked when he looked at his receipt.

The price of chocolate vouchers is hard to believe – photo evidence from supermarket customers is causing a stir

He shares the photo on the social network Reddit. The users there can hardly believe the price at first, but one of them points to the Kaufland website, where the same product even costs 141.69 euros per kilo or 12.61.

The opinion regarding the offer is clear: they would never buy the chocolate at this price. “’Family bag’ with 89 grams tops it,” one user commented on the note on the pack that he would only treat himself to a bag if he won the lottery jackpot.

Price triggers a shake of the head – “They didn’t put any more paint in it, they drank it themselves”

Another user calculates: “A one-kilogram mixture of flour, sugar, cocoa, maybe a few chopped nuts and a lot of industrial crap costs almost 125 euros. They didn’t put any more paint in it because the Ferrero guys had apparently already drunk it themselves.”

“Do they cure cancer?” asks another user. And another suspects a pricing error. Others come with creative suggestions: “I have a totally crazy solution. I swear it works: don’t buy it.” Healthy alternatives are also suggested: “Please just buy apples.”

Users complain regarding expensive imported chocolate and call it “children’s caviar”

Kaufland provides an explanation for the steep price on its website: “This is an exclusive import by air freight from Saudi Arabia that you will not find in any normal supermarket.”

Many users denounce the climate-damaging import. “Anyone who buys something like that should be flogged,” says one user harshly. Another user “thought it was a joke.” He then asks: “So a kilogram of industrial poop costs maybe €1.40 and it is now being sold at a hundred times the price just because it is transported by plane?” Another user says the product is based on another, very expensive food “children’s caviar.”

User speaks of “perfect marketing stunt”

There is also a few isolated positive feedback: At least the chocolate tastes good, reports one user who received a pack as a gift. And another user applauds the market’s marketing strategy: He calls it a perfect marketing stunt.

“Artificially reducing availability (since it is not normally available from us). Arouse interest (because new and rare) and possibly limit the time (access quickly). Set the price very high and see whether customers accept it precisely because of these factors.”

At Lidl, price will no longer play a role in the decision “meat or vegan” in the future. But not everyone is happy regarding the change. (cgsc)
