Yuliya Koblyk, a resident of Kropyvnytskyi, brought half a hundred jungariks from the Kherson region. Their owners, he says, were evacuated from the region due to Russian aggression, and they might not take their pets. After learning regarding this, the girl found a car and went to save the furry ones. Although she understood that it was dangerous for herself. The evacuated hamster farm, as the woman from Kropivnyc jokingly calls it, was seen by the journalists of Access Point.
Evacuation operation
I have some here one at a time, here is a mother with three small children, here is a family – father, mother and one child. And there were three of them in this cage, as I brought them, and there are two babies. I don’t know where their mother is, but the kids are there, the girl laughs.
Julia is trying to count all the animals, but it is not easy these days. She has been taking care of these Dzungari immigrants for the second year. She brought them to Kropyvnytskyi from the village of Novovorontsovka in the spring of the 22nd. Despite the risks, she went following the animals, she says, even her mother did not know this.
Yes, we will find out how many children you have. I heard them squealing here. I saw once that one was pulled out and he might not enter the house. Come here, bug, come here little one.
The girl says that she has loved hamsters since childhood. Always kept a few furry ones at home. Immigrants from the Kherson region occupied the entire room in their parents’ house. At first, two or three huddled together in one cardboard box. Yulia remembers how the most agile ones gnawed through the boxes and ran around the house. After that, the animals were transplanted into cages made from old furniture made by my stepfather. Caring people also helped with food and houses for hamsters.
Mom gets up in the morning and says: “What is this?” – a hamster sits at her feet and looks at her. I was scared at first, and then I fell in love with them. He says: “Don’t give that one away, don’t give that one away”, he asks her to leave it.
The animals were under stress
The woman from Kropyvnytskyi says that following moving to Kropyvnytskyi, the animals were quite aggressive. She assumes that they behaved this way because of stress. After the operation to evacuate the furry ones, Julia had to help them get used to their new place.
They were all like that at once, you know – biting, screaming, well, that is, they were completely awkward. They were all wild. I started allocating at least 15 minutes to each of them to get used to it. It so happened that I did not sleep until morning, sitting with those hamsters.
Julia shows the sick animals to the veterinarian. He puts drops on them so that their eyes don’t water, takes them to the doctor to file their crooked teeth so that they can eat comfortably. Buys vitamins to prevent hair loss. He cares as if regarding children. She recalls that one doctor laughed that it would be cheaper for her to buy a new pet than to treat a sick one.
I had a hamster there, she somehow refused to eat at all. I was crying when I was feeding her, she comes, lies on the back and asks to be given a drop of food. I bought her milk formula and fed it from a syringe with this mixture.
At first there were fifty animals. And once the relocated hamster farm had more than 70 residents.
It happened that two mothers in one box immediately gave birth to 11 hamsters. And I, too, did not sleep with them for three days, and sat up at night because they were fighting – two mothers, one pulling the hamsters for herself, the other for herself. And I mightn’t figure out where other people’s children were.
The girl takes several hours every day to take care of the Dzungariks. But these troubles, she convinces, are her joy.
I change the places of the boxes there, my mother can’t figure out who is where. And I already distinguish them by memory, I learned. It’s hard to tell where the boy is and where the girl is. It happens that I will give a boy, and then it turns out that it is a girl.
Caring hosts are wanted
Julia is happy when there are caring owners for the furry ones. Even following giving the hamster away, he is interested in its life in a new family.
Sometimes I take them straight home so they don’t freeze outside, well, I don’t want anything to happen to them. That is, for everyone, even though they are no longer mine, I still worry.
The girl has her own favorites. He says that he will definitely keep at least 12 Dzhungariks for himself. These are the animals that are distinguished by something or that she left following illnesses. She says that she is already so used to these furry ones that the house will be sad without them.
