A man from Himmerland has trained his dog in a careless way.
In the period between November 2022 and March 2023, the man was a dog training course.
During the dog training and in front of several dog owners, he has hit and kicked his dog to make it happy.
Witnesses explained in court
The man had been fined but had refused to pay it.
Therefore, he had to make a trip past the Court in Aalborg.
Here he was prosecuted for improper treatment of the dog in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act.
He appeared and pleaded not guilty to hitting and kicking the dog during dog training.
However, several witnesses explained in court that the man had treated the dog in a harsh manner with punches and kicks.
The court found it credible, and the man was sentenced to pay a fine of DKK 8,000.
However, there was no authority to disqualify the man from having animals, because he has not previously been convicted, and therefore he can continue to keep the dog.
This is what senior prosecutor Ingrid Munch Hansen says.
The man from Himmerland now has 14 days to consider whether to pay the fine or appeal the sentence.
Unacceptable behavior
According to family animal manager at Dyrenes Beskyttelse, Jens Jokumsen, the case and similar cases regarding negligent dog training are familiar.
– It is thought-provoking, violent and completely once morest modern principles of dog training, which is based on trust and not punishment in connection with training, he says.
The violent treatment of the dog is seen by Animal Protection as unacceptable behaviour.
– It is sad that it happens, but fortunately it has been discovered and the man receives a punishment, which sends a clear message that it is completely unacceptable and illegal treatment of animals, says the family animal manager.
That is why Dyrenes Beskytselse also encourages you to report it to the police if you yourself witness similar incidents.
– If in any way you see any form of physical punishment or violence, you must react, stop it and contact the police. The dogs do not have the opportunity to defend themselves.
– It is in no way intended that animals should be afraid and insecure when they have to learn something new, says Jens Jokumsen.
