O Telegram today announced quite a range of news — all, however, focused on groups on the platform.
There are, therefore, new features in terms of publishing, customization and, for boosted groups, even more productivity features, as we will see in detail below.
Group boosting
Groups can now gain levels thanks to member boosts. In addition to new features (detailed below), higher tiers give members access to premium features.
Messages from users who promoted the group show a special seal, which evolves each time boost sent. Administrators can manage special permissions for these boosts, giving them exclusive privileges.
Telegram Premium includes four boosts that can be assigned to any group or channel — and you get three more boosts each time you give the Premium plan as a gift.
Group Stories
Group administrators can now post Stories that are only seen by members (and not their contacts in general). Members’ responses will be sent to the group, generating new conversations.
Appearance of emoji groups and statuses
Boosted groups now have unique customization options. Among them, you can change the color and logo of the group profile cover, set an emoji status and choose a wallpaper that will be visible to all members.
Additionally, participants in these groups can select emojis created by Telegram artists and add any of them next to the group name.
Emoji packs and speech to text converter
Boosted groups also unlock some Telegram Premium features for in-chat communication. This way, administrators can choose a custom emoji pack that all group members can use — even if they don’t have Telegram Premium.
Likewise, boosted group members can also enjoy unlimited voice-to-text transcription for voice and video messages sent in the group.
Telegram said it had planned five other features for the update released today, but hinted that they were unable to obtain authorization from Apple to implement them. Therefore, they should arrive in next month’s update.
Soon, updates will be available in the App Stores for iPhone and Mac.
