Texas Inmate Executed Despite Claims of Innocence
Ivan Cantu, a Texas inmate who had spent over 20 years on death row, was executed on Wednesday evening for the 2000 fatal shooting of his cousin and his cousin’s girlfriend. Cantu had long maintained his innocence, arguing that his conviction was based on false testimony and questionable evidence.
Cantu, 50, received a lethal injection and was pronounced dead at the state penitentiary in Huntsville. In a final plea from the execution chamber, he repeatedly asserted his innocence
