With the increasing number of electric vehicles on the road, the leading gas station company, Taiwan Petroleum Corporation (1328), the National Highway Service District of the High-tech Public Security Bureau and local governments, etc., have begun to rush to build charging stations in the past year. However, the outcome of the public bidding case was The company in question is not a well-known technology company, but EVOASIS, a company that has been established for less than 5 years.

What exactly is this new startup capable of? Tao Baiqun, the 41-year-old founder, accepted an exclusive interview with CTWANT reporter and revealed the answer: “Our competitors are all tens of billions and hundreds of billions of large groups. Many people are not optimistic regarding us, but our biggest advantage is our experience in solar power plants.”

Origin Technology, headquartered in Tainan, has moved its northern location from Citizen Avenue to Renai Circle before the beginning of the Lunar New Year to expand its business. As soon as visitors enter the new office, they will see the main wall of the EVOASIS charging station in blue and green, with a large screen playing on the wall. Company video, simple interior design, regarding 20 seats. Tao Baiqun told CTWANT reporters in the newly renovated conference room that he practiced in a solar power plant for 10 years before joining a charging service provider.

Tao Baiqun, who loves nature and always wants to run outside, studied at the Department of Earth Sciences at National Cheng Kung University. Two years following serving in the army, in 2008, he went to the University of Iceland to study at the Institute of Renewable Energy Engineering. In Iceland, he saw the first Tesla, BMW electric concept car, etc., so he proposed a research plan, “I modified a traditional fuel car, hollowed out the engine, and bought batteries and electricity from all over the world. We will reorganize the control system, build a website, and open it up to everyone to rent it for free and experience electric vehicle life.”

The next year, Tao Baiqun completed his studies and returned to Taiwan. “I wanted to work for an electric vehicle company, but Taiwan has almost no development of electric vehicles. The more mature one is the solar manufacturing industry.” Tao Baiqun switched to Yujing (2018), one of the top ten solar cell manufacturers in the world at the time. It has been merged into “United Recycling”) as its business in the Americas, the Middle East, South Korea, Japan, Europe and other countries.

At that time, Taiwan’s solar energy industry was developing rapidly and had become a major exporter. However, domestic construction had not yet started. It was not until 2012 that the Ministry of Economic Affairs launched the “Millions of Sun Rooftops” program to reward communities for setting up rooftop solar photovoltaic systems. Tao Baiqun’s hometown Tainan also followed suit, “I found that the number of solar installations in Taiwan is very small, and I think it should be invested in the development of terminal systems.”

So Tao Baiqun left a major solar panel manufacturer and raised one million by himself. In 2013, he established “Sunshine Garden” in Tainan. It started with rooftop solar power generation and later expanded to various types of projects.

“Actually, I am doing solar energy and I have been making profits since I received the first case.” He said that the revenue has continued to grow steadily, reaching more than 1 billion 3 or 4 years ago. There are 1,600 cases and the total installed capacity exceeds 200MW.” With stable operating profits, Sunshine Garden has not yet IPO, and ordinary investors have limited knowledge.

After becoming a solar system operator, Tao Baiqun still did not forget regarding electric vehicles. “Tesla finally introduced it in 2018, so I ordered a Model S.” “During New Year’s Eve, I drove up to Alishan and thought the battery would be enough to get home. However, I consumed more electricity when I went up the mountain. When I reached the top of the mountain, I found that only the battery was left. 150 kilometers, and it takes 180 kilometers to get home. At that time, Tesla only had 5 charging stations in Taiwan. The closest one to me was in Taichung and the other in Tainan. And I was in Chiayi and mightn’t find a charging station nearby. “It’s very desert.” 』.』

Usually, Tao Baiqun goes to the Chimei Museum, an 8-minute drive from his home, to charge. As a “nomad”, he realized that “the shortage of charging stations is a problem that must be solved.” So he embarked on an investigation trip to observe the operation modes of charging pile operators in South Korea, China, the United States, Europe and other countries.

“I refer to many cases, including both hardware and software business models.” Tao Baiqun, who has experience in starting a solar power plant, believes, “With our capabilities and experience, we can actually create a better charging environment for electric car owners because we have Mechanical and electrical technical capabilities, construction capabilities, and site-finding capabilities.”

So Tao Baiqun found his friend Shen Junqi, who had worked on car factory software in the Mercedes-Benz team, and Zheng Xujie, another marketing graduate from the University of Southern California and the chairman of the solar power plant company “Pacific Green Energy”. The three of them and other relatives and friends invested in three projects. Wan Wan established “Yuandian Technology” in 2019, with the English name “EVOASIS”, which means to create an oasis in the desert of charging piles. Now it has become a dark horse in the industry.
