Dakar, Feb 28 (APS) – The Council of Ministers examined and adopted, Wednesday, in the Council of Ministers, a bill for amnesty for acts linked to political violence occurring between 2021 and 2024.
The adoption of the bill by the government comes following the promise made by Macky Sall, last Monday, at the opening of the national dialogue, to propose a “general amnesty law for acts relating to political demonstrations occurring between 2021 and 2024”.
The bill will be presented to the National Assembly “as soon as possible”, according to the press release from the Council of Ministers.
”In the spirit of national reconciliation, I will submit to the National Assembly, following its adoption in the Council of Ministers, a general amnesty bill on the facts relating to political demonstrations occurring between 2021 and 2024”, declared Macky Sall at the opening of the national dialogue.
He was referring to the political violence occurring in particular in 2021 and 2024, during which many people were killed, injured or imprisoned.
