In the last Sunday match of the 26th round of the Spanish football championship, Real Madrid hosted Sevilla at home. The last time the visitors managed to win in the Spanish capital was in December 2008, and although they had finished their previous two league games without conceding a goal, that streak was unlikely to continue tonight.
The match started with a Sevilla situation, in the 8th minute Romero passed to En-Nisziri, but the Moroccan shot over the goal in a roaring situation. Two minutes later, the home team scored a goal, Lucas Vázquez shot into the bottom right corner following Vinícius’ lift. However, the referee used VAR to invalidate the goal due to an earlier foul. In the 39th minute, the net of Sevilla’s goal shook, but following Tchouaméni’s shot, the ball only landed in the side net. The half ended with Valverde’s cross, Nyland pushed the ball over the crossbar following the Uruguayan’s attempt.
The second half also started with an opportunity for Valverde, in the 49th minute, the Uruguayan hit the post. In the 52nd minute, Sevilla might have scored, but following Ocampos’ excellent outside pass, Romero’s shot was brilliantly saved by Lunyin. In the 60th minute, we witnessed an almost five-minute interruption of the game, as the referee of the meeting, Diaz de Mera, was injured. For the rest of the game, Fernández Buergo, the reserve referee until then, took his place. In the 75th minute, Carlo Ancelotti made a big move, sending him on the field Luka Modricot. In the 81st minute, the Croatian played a trick past Soumaré following the ball was passed, then shot into the bottom left corner from 19 meters. With the victory, Real Madrid strengthened its leading position at home. 1–0
