Waiting for a kidney transplant, a New Brunswick man decided to take matters into his own hands and posted a message on his car to find a donor.
George Leblanc has been waiting for a new kidney for five years now and has been on dialysis for two years. To get things going, he posted an ad on his BMW to find a donor.
«[Sur l’inscription en blanc]it says “Kidney needed” and there is my type, type O positive, with the phone number, and it says “share your surplus and be a hero”,” mentioned Mr. Leblanc in an interview with CTV News .
The announcement did not go unnoticed since in just six months, the man was called and stopped by people who saw his car and wanted to know if they might donate their kidneys to him.
“I have already received regarding 15 to 20 responses […] It feels really good, it feels really good […] We must never abandon humanity sometimes when people do things unexpectedly,” underlined George Leblanc, specifying that he directed the people who contacted him to the hospital.
Even though he has not yet found his donor, he believes that his announcement might have made a difference for many people waiting for a kidney donation.
“When they start the tests, if I’m not compatible with them, because it’s not just blood type, there’s all the tissues that have to match – so if I’m not compatible with them, I hopes that they will continue and then end up donating a kidney to someone else,” said the New Brunswicker who says he is happy to think that his car helps encourage organ donation.
