Where and when is the Concacaf 2024 Under 20 World Cup?

Concacaf shared dates and venues for its Under 20 Championship that will be held in 2024, which will qualify four teams for the 2025 World Cup.

On Monday, February 26, Concacaf shared the official dates and venues of the Under 20 Championship (also Pre-World Cup) which will grant four direct tickets to the 2025 World Cup to be held in Chile.

The chosen cities by the North American, Central American and Caribbean Soccer Confederation to host the tournament that will succeed the 2023 World Cup in Argentina They are the Mexicans Celaya and Irapuato in the Guanajuato stadium, Mexico.

In addition to the venues, Concacaf also revealed the dates of the competition: from July 19 to August 4, 2024. The Under 20 Championship will initially be made up of 12 teams that will play in a group stage.

Each team will play a total of three games, the first two places in each group and the two best third places will advance to the quarterfinals. The teams that manage to reach the semifinals ensure their participation in the 2025 Under-20 World Cup.

The 25 games of the competition will be divided into two venues: the Sergio León Chávez Stadium in Irapuato and the Miguel Alemán Valdés Stadium in Celaya. The group stage draw and other details will be announced in April 2024.

For this tournament, 6 of the 12 teams have already qualified: United States, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. The vacant spaces will be filled by 6 of the 27 teams that are currently competing in a qualifying phase, among them, the Guatemalan Under 20 team led by coach Marvin Cabrera.

The national bicolor has already won two of four matches scheduled at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores stadium and is the leader of Group C with 6 points. Second is Curacao with 4, third is Aruba with 1 and both Barbados and Saint Martin are with 0 points.

If the team finishes first in the group following 4 games, it will obtain the right to participate in the Under 20 Championship to be held in Mexico.

In the previous edition of the Concacaf Under 20 Championship, Guatemala reached the semifinals where they lost to the Dominican Republic. Thanks to that result, the bicolor managed to qualify for her second World Cup in the category.
