Just Eat Takeaway received fewer orders in 2023, but still improved its results. The operating result rose to 324 million euros last year. This is partly because Thuisbezorgd’s parent company receives extra income from restaurants for its services.
Just Eat Takeaway charges a commission for every order placed. Part of the price of the meal goes to the meal deliverer. In Northern Europe, meal prices will rise sharply in 2023 and so will the commission that meal delivery companies charge from restaurants.
Restaurants also paid more for advertising via the meal delivery service. Another cause of the better result is that the company has started working more efficiently. For example, there was a major reorganization in the United Kingdom.
The total amount of orders grew by 2 to 6 percent, depending on the region. This year the company expects even better results.
Just Eat Takeaway still suffered a net loss of 1.8 billion euros. This is partly due to write-offs of 1.5 billion euros on previously acquired companies in Canada and the United States. In 2022, the net loss was almost 5.7 billion euros.
