the essentials Located in Mireval-Lauragais, the SARL Les Mexicots saw its storage building go up in smoke. the damage is significant.

A vehicle theft last year, a driver’s traffic accident a few weeks ago and now a fire of accidental origin… The hard blows keep coming for the SARL les Mexicots, based in the town of Mireval-Lauragais but Nadine and Camille Guagno, the managers and owners are hanging on and if they don’t give up, it’s as they explain “for their employees”. Since they took over the company two years ago, they have developed it and today there are 14 people working there. A beautiful little “box” whose suppliers are the poultry producers of Lauragais and whose customers are schools, butchers and supermarkets in the area. Short circuit, high quality products and a well-constructed sector.

The fire started late Thursday followingnoon

This Thursday, February 22, at the end of the followingnoon, the building housing the company’s vehicles caught fire. The four trucks, an electric elevator, parts for the pluckers – today unobtainable because they were old which the entrepreneurs had been able to recover when a competing company closed, and finally all the stock of boxes which had just come to be delivered… everything went up in smoke. A tractor, although parked outside, was also destroyed. Other vehicles parked in the company’s courtyard were saved thanks to Valentin Terki who was passing on the secondary road with his father when the fire broke out and who courageously took them to safety, as M explains. . and Mrs. Guagno who have no words to thank him and salute his courage.

A chain of solidarity

Since the disaster, a chain of solidarity has been put in place which allows the activity to continue. Enough to reassure poultry producers whose breeding buildings are currently full.

The elected officials, Marie Paule Cau, mayor of Mireval, Philippe Greffier, president of the community of communes, Patrick Maugard, departmental councilor and mayor of Castelnaudary immediately contacted the couple to try to see what help they might provide them. The Renault garage helped him out with a vehicle loan which allowed them to continue the poultry collection tour. The mayor of Saint-Michel de Lanès, Thierry Leguevaques, lent a helping hand. As for the next semi-trailer of boxes which had to be urgently recommended, it will be stored in a neighboring countryside thanks to the intervention of the mayor of Mireval.

The day following the disaster, Nadine Guagno began looking for suitable livestock trailers, specialized equipment that was difficult to find. To do this, she contacted the French slaughterhouse association, which is looking into it on its own. The crates for transporting the poultry – there were around 400 of them – burned down and they need to be replaced too! As for the damage, it is still difficult to estimate it precisely but what is certain is that it will be significant and although the company is insured, it will not fully cover its costs. For example, it is necessary to replace all the small tools that were acquired with the purchase of the company and destroyed in the fire. A whole bunch of costs that add up to each other. Also Nadine Guagno launched an appeal for generosity by opening an online prize pool on the Leetchi website.
