Cycling helmet with protection once morest rotational forces
“Lazer Sport has been a leader in cycling helmet innovation since 1919, from simple leather caps on the roads of Belgium to our stylish, safe and globally available helmets. We combine passion, performance and the joy of riding. Our drive to innovate has redefined helmet protection with KinetiCore technology. With KinetiCore implemented in 20 models by the end of 2024, these helmets offer design improvements and greater safety for all cyclists. Our focus is on increasing performance, using environmentally friendly materials and promoting self-sufficient production. As we continue to grow into more markets and product categories, we keep safety as our priority. However, our commitment to sustainability aligns with the evolving needs of the bicycle industry. At the heart of our development and innovation process is the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio,” said Bastiaan Van Asch from product engineering at Lazer Sport NV.
KinetiCore technology in cycling helmet
KinetiCore technology is the result of Lazer Sport’s decade-long search for new and superior technologies. Lazer Sport created KinetiCore to provide road and off-road cyclists with protection once morest direct impacts and rotational forces. Uniquely designed EPS foam blocks, called controlled deformation areas, deform on impact and absorb energy that would otherwise reach the rider’s brain. KinetiCore technology ensures helmets are up to 23% lighter and 12% better cooling efficiency, with innovative ventilation openings that channel cold air to the back of the helmet and expel hot air, increasing rider comfort and the overall experience. Furthermore, it uses less plastic than previous comparable models, reinforcing Lazer Sport’s commitment to reducing environmental impact.
Lazer Sport NV, one of Europe’s leading cycling helmet manufacturers, has adopted the Siemens Xcelerator industrial software portfolio to help bring its new KinetiCore rotational force protection technology to market.
Lazer Sport uses Siemens NX™ software for product engineering and manufacturing, as well as Simcenter™ 3D software for simulation and digital verification. “The development of KinetiCore technology involved several design changes and simulations. We chose the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio because of its wide range of applications and ability to seamlessly connect 3D design to 3D printing for digital prototyping and simulation. With Siemens NX, we can create and simulate more complex designs for our helmets and molds. Siemens Xcelerator has enabled more complex designs, greater freedom and faster time to market,” said Emiel Spreeuwers, product designer at Lazer Sport.
“3D CAD files created in NX can also be easily opened in Simcenter for further modifications and operations without compatibility issues. This simplified approach helps us verify the performance of KinetiCore technology while avoiding costly mold changes following production,” said Hadi Ghiaballoo, product engineer at Lazer Sport.
Lazer Sport adopted Siemens’ NX™ software in the engineering and manufacturing of products including cycling helmets, in addition to Simcenter™ 3D software in digital simulation and verification.
Lazer Sport is also using the Teamcenter® Share application, provided in the Siemens Xcelerator as a Service portfolio, to optimize internal and supplier collaboration. As a cloud service, Teamcenter Share is a controlled, secure and easily accessible environment that allows Lazer Sport to easily share design and engineering data.
