A massive water pipe burst on Industriestrasse in Sulgen was reported to the cantonal emergency call center (KNZ) in Frauenfeld on Sunday evening, shortly before 5:30 p.m., as reported by the news agency BRK News. The Sulgen-Kradolf-Schönenberg fire department was immediately alerted, and around 30 fire department members responded to the location in question.
A main water pipe that burst underground quickly flooded the entire SBB railway underpass over a length of a good 60 meters, and no one was injured. Emergency services are currently being challenged by the enormous volumes of water. As BRK News continues, three pumps have been in continuous use for several hours. As fire department operations manager Michael Geiger tells BRK News, up to 800 liters of water per second are pumped out of the underpass. The operation is expected to last until late in the evening. It is not yet possible to say conclusively how extensive the damage is.

The statement goes on to say that at least one apartment building with four apartments is currently disconnected from the water network and that neighboring industries, including a well-known large Swiss food company, are supplied by another water pipe. However, this is not affected by the water outage. The fire brigade operation is expected to last until late in the evening. (brk news/vit)
