Speaker of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Yuri Ignat in on air telethon stated that following the destruction of the Russian A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on February 23, less than eight aircraft of this type remained in the Russian Federation.

“You need to look at the intelligence data. Earlier, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, noted that there were eight aircraft before this (before the shooting down of the second A-50 aircraft – ed). Of these, not all are working, not all are modernized. Therefore, they are on the fingers of one hand it was,” said Ignat.

According to him, the A-50 destroyed over the Sea of ​​Azov was modernized. Ignat explained that the airborne early warning aircraft is actually a radar that can detect all air targets within a radius of 600 kilometers and identify Ukrainian radar systems and air defense systems.

“The successes that we have today, this distant hand, the ability to reach the enemy where he absolutely does not expect it, suggests that the enemy will have less ability in this direction, having lost the A-50,” he added.

A Russian A-50 airborne early warning aircraft was shot down by a Soviet S-200 anti-aircraft missile system. This is the second Russian AWACS aircraft destroyed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The first A-50 was destroyed over the Sea of ​​Azov on January 14.
