The alarm was raised on Friday night (16.02.2024) in Paris when a man threatened police officers with a butcher knife.
Paris police officers opened fire following using a taser once morest him, to no avail, said the prosecutor’s office, which has opened an investigation into the incident.
The deceased was identified as having been born in January 1984 in Sudan and was not known to the authorities, according to the same source.
“Shortly before 3 a.m. police services received a call regarding a threatening person, wearing a djellaba and holding a butcher knife, who was at the Butte tram station in the 19th arrondissement of Paris,” explained the same source.
When they arrived, they saw “the man holding a butcher knife in one hand and a notebook with words in Arabic in the other.”
After he did not obey the officers’ orders to drop the knife and despite the repeated use of a taser, “the man began to run towards them, always holding the butcher knife,” the prosecution continued.
“According to the first data, four police officers used their weapons by shooting regarding 20 times,” he concluded. No police officers were injured, but those who used their weapons were taken to hospital in a state of “shock”, the prosecutor’s office said.
