A group of scientists from the Technical University of Munich predicts that the Earth will have 25-hour days because the planet’s rotation changes approximately every 14 days. Know when this change will occur.
The German specialists used a new, highly precise laser instrument that is specifically designed to measure the rotation speed of the planet we inhabit. This tool is located at the Wetzell Geodetic Observatory. They found that the rotation varies six milliseconds every two weeks. For this reason, they determined that the Earth will begin to have days that last 25 hours within approximately 200 million years.
This event is not something new, since since its formation the planet has increased the length of days over the years. 1.5 billion years ago, for example, days lasted only 19 hours.
