Entrances, escruches, murders. Jets, motojets, patachorros. Insecurity is everywhere and some localities continue to rise on the podium of fear. According to a recent security report, Rosario, Mar del Plata, Villa Gesell, La Plata and Córdoba make up the top five of the most unsafe and violent places in Argentina.
The first of them, as if that were not enough, is the bloodiest of all cities: last year it recorded 259 violent deaths, according to data from the Public Security Observatory (OSP) of Santa Fe. The country’s homicide rate was 4.2 and Rosario quintupled it with 22 per 100 thousand inhabitants.
In a context of extreme violence, it is not surprising that it is also considered the most unsafe city in Argentina. According to statistics prepared by the Verisure Security Observatory, Rosario concentrated, out of the total universe of homes and businesses analyzed, 5.2% of criminal acts, ranking first on the scale of vulnerable areas.
According to this data, the greatest number of events occurred on weekdays, with less criminal activity on weekends. “It was also observed that intrusions into homes were carried out more towards the hours of darkness and robberies from businesses during the day,” the report details.
The situation in Rosario is so serious that even the police cells are overflowing as has not happened in a long time. This week, some 35 detainees housed in the center’s second police station were relocated to the Coronda and Piñero prisons.
The decision has to do with the Emptying Plan of the sections due to growing overpopulation. The measure, adopted by Governor Maximiliano Pullaro, aims to return many police officers to the streets and stop caring for detainees. Lucía Masneri, Secretary of Criminal Affairs of Santa Fe, acknowledged this week that “the objective of the Plan is for the police to be able to recover operations on the streets.”
Without peace. The report on the most unsafe cities was prepared by the Verisure Alarm Receiving Center, which monitors its client portfolio throughout the country 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As indicated, the records involve both homes and businesses, and can represent real or frustrated robbery attempts, intrusions, altercations and, to a lesser extent, other types of situations such as fires or medical emergencies.

Behind Rosario appear two of the cities most visited by tourists these days: Mar del Plata and Villa Gesell. The work highlights that in this area there were higher crime records, “observing special vulnerability in those properties considered second homes that are empty for much of the year.”
Insecurity in Mar del Plata is not new. In recent weeks, the residents of Parque Camet blocked Route 11 following the brutal attack on a nurse and the murder of a fruit port night watchman.
The 33-year-old woman was shot on February 1 while riding a bicycle on the bike path on Route 11 and Scaglia. A few days, and a few blocks away, Jorge Alberto Cabrera (55) was murdered with two shots.
Continuing with the ranking, the other cities that appear are La Plata (5.04%) and Córdoba (4.80%). One step below is the City of Buenos Aires, which concentrates 3.40% of reais throughout the year. “The neighborhoods that detected the highest incidences were Palermo and San Telmo. On the contrary, Núñez, Devoto and San Cristóbal were the ones with the lowest crime records,” the report states.
Santa Fe, meanwhile, recorded 3.30% of events and, in the case of Mendoza, 3.04% of real events were reported, ranking seventh among the most vulnerable areas in the country. Finally, two cities in the province of Buenos Aires close the list: Tandil (2.80%) and Bahía Blanca (1.77%).
The report does not include any town in the Buenos Aires suburbs, where several violent and tragic episodes have been recorded in recent months. Without going any further this week, Roberto Eduardo Mac Donald (62), the head of Security of the La Matanza Urban Guard, was murdered.
Mac Donald was approached by two motorcycle jets when he arrived at his house, located on the corner of Mendoza and Chile streets. The criminals, who were traveling on an XR 300 motorcycle, began shooting when the official apparently tried to resist the robbery.
Export thieves
La Plata is ranked fourth among the most unsafe cities in the country, according to the report prepared by the Verisure Security Observatory.
It is also one of the most chosen places by criminals who live in nearby towns, such as Lanús and Florencio Varela.
In recent days, in addition, the Police managed to dismantle an organization made up of Chilean thieves that was committing break-ins and break-ins in the capital of the province of Buenos Aires.
The accused had tried to rob a house located in the area of 528 between 628 and 629, and were arrested following a chase along the La Plata – Buenos Aires Highway.
Another follow-up between police and alleged criminals occurred in the last hours. On this occasion, there was also a strong confrontation.
It all started in the area of 529 and 119, in the town of Tolosa, where two motorcycle riders stole a young woman’s cell phone. Shortly following, the perpetrators, aged 24 and 30, engaged in a shootout with the Police and were arrested.
