University of Minnesota Duluth Men’s Hockey Team Swept by UND Fighting Hawks – Game Recap and Highlights

DULUTH, MN. (Northern News Now) – The University of Minnesota Duluth mens hockey team took a trip to Grand Forks for a road series once morest the fourth-ranked Fighting Hawks who won the first game in a 6-0 shutout and completed the sweep with a 4-2 win on Saturday.

The Bulldogs’ first-period defense was much improved compared to Friday where they allowed three goals. UND still found the net following 17 minutes of game time and a Duluth penalty gave them a power play opportunity.

In the second UND added another goal to make it 2-0.

The Bulldogs would get on the board following sophomore Aiden Dubinsky scored an even-strength goal off assists from Aaron Pionk and Luke Loheit.

just over four minutes later the Bulldogs’ sophomore Jack Smith was found by Dubinksky and Joey Pierce to tie it at 2-2 heading into the final period.

In the final period, North Dakota’s James Dylan scored two goals 13 minutes apart to give the Fighting Hawks the 4-2 win.

Matthew Thiessen picked up 17 saves in the loss.

UMD heads to Colorado Springs next weekend to face Colorado College.

Puck drop for Friday is at 8 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the MY9 Sports Network.

Saturday’s puck drop is at 7 p.m. in Colorado.
