Corn subsidies for 2024 are the aid promised to farmers during Anna Gembicka’s meeting with farmers protesting at the border in Medyka last November. The European Commission recently approved this form of aid for farmers. When will it be possible to submit applications for corn subsidies?
Applications for 2024 corn subsidies can be submitted only until February 29 this year. The recruitment process has only just started, so there is little time to apply for this support. To improve the recruitment process, ARiMR extended the working hours of district offices.
Who can count on corn subsidies in 2024?
Financial assistance in the form of subsidies is addressed to Polish corn producers. It was introduced because 2023 was another very difficult season for corn producers. As indicated in the support project, purchasing entities are not interested in purchasing corn from farmers. And considering the high drying costs and the simultaneous lack of prospects for an increase in dry corn prices, they approach the transaction very carefully. This situation is the result of excessive grain imports from Ukraine to Poland. It’s mainly regarding corn from Ukraine. The flooding of the Polish market with Ukrainian goods has led to problems for both agricultural producers and purchasing entities.
In order for agricultural producers affected by this situation to receive aid, they must meet the following criteria:
- running a micro, small or medium-sized enterprise;
- submitting an application for subsidies for 2023 (demonstrating corn cultivation, excluding silage crops).
Corn subsidies 2024. What rates?
The amount of aid is the equivalent of the product of the corn cultivation area declared in the application for direct payments for 2023 (but not more than 100 ha) and the corn subsidy rate (depending on the region of the country). The aid rates for individual voivodeships are as follows:
- PLN 1,000/ha corn crops (excluding silage corn) in the voivodeships: Lublin Province i Podkarpackie;
- PLN 700/ha corn crops (excluding silage corn) in the voivodeships: Lesser Poland, Masovian Voivodeship, Świętokrzyskie i Podlasie;
- PLN 500/ha corn crops (excluding silage corn) in the voivodeships: Lower Silesia, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Lubuskie, Łódź, Opole province, Pomeranian, Silesian, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Greater Poland, West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
It is true that the National Council of Agricultural Chambers requested the Ministry of Agriculture to introduce a uniform subsidy rate for corn producers throughout Poland. However, the Ministry of Agriculture supported the differentiation of rates. He explained this decision by the different costs associated with selling grain in different regions of the country.
