Aarón Herrera confesses his time and connection with the Guatemalan team: “it was the best decision”

The Guatemalan National Team soccer player, who currently plays for DC United of the MLS, confessed that playing with the Bicolor has been his “best decision” so far.

Aarón Herrera is currently enjoying a new stage in his professional career. The 26-year-old footballer signed for DC United in December and is now a couple of days away from making his debut in the 2024 MLS season.

The Guatemalan, who wore the Guatemala National Team shirt for the first time on June 15, 2023, spoke with his team’s official media prior to the start of the new campaign in the United States and left his confessions, among them, he admitted that Playing for Guatemala was “the best decision.”

My father was born and raised in Guatemala. So far it has been an incredible experience. I think making the decision to make the change just once has been beyond incredible. It has been the best decision I have made so far“said the Guatemalan international who has worn the national shirt six times.

Herrera is one of the soccer players of Guatemalan descent who joined the project directed by Luis Fernando Tena. He, along with Rubio Rubín and Nathaniel Méndez-Laing, are part of that group of players.

In the 2023 Gold Cup, Herrera took over on the right wing and played in all four games once morest Cuba, Canada, Guadeloupe and Jamaica. In the interview with DC United, Aarón also highlighted his virtues on the field of play.

I don’t like to talk too much regarding myself, but I think I’m a player who likes to help his teammates and put them ahead of me. Regarding qualities on the field, I am a player who likes to run and I also like to defend“, he expressed.

Herrera and DC United are scheduled to make their MLS debut next Saturday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Guatemala.

The Guatemalan’s first rival in the MLS will be the New England Revolution and the Guatemalan will probably start. Another Guatemalan who is in the MLS is goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen, who signed for the Columbus Crew, the current champion of the American league.
