The sky is slowly clearing at MR. The party president, Georges-Louis Bouchez is gradually emerging from the puzzle of drawing up lists, even if everything is not resolved. This morning he proposed the following choice to the Brussels liberals meeting in a general meeting at the ULB: appoint Valérie Glatigny, former Minister of Higher Education in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, as head of the list in the Chamber. This allows the party to place Sophie Wilmès, former Prime Minister, at the top of the European list. Which is now officially recorded.

Originally, it was Charles Michel, President of the European Council and also a former Prime Minister, who was to take the lead on the European list, but he finally gave up, faced with criticism of a situation which required him to shorten his mandate in his current position. The European place has become free, so it is Sophie Wilmès who will settle there, as we have anticipated for several weeks. The saga is slowly coming to an end.

At a press conference this Saturday morning, the MR also announced the arrival on the list of the former rector of Saint-Louis and vice-rector of UCLouvain Pierre Jadoul as “first” substitute in the Chamber.

Sophie Wilmès: “The MR headquarters is two metro stations from the European district”

It is no secret that Sophie Wilmès’ choice to head the European list is that of the former prime minister, and much less that of the party president. But during the press conference, all the speakers acted as a collective. “There are individual choices and team choices,” said Sophie Wilmès, “whose individual choice therefore prevailed. However, she assured of her interest in European affairs. “I didn’t wait for this moment to know that I always had an interest in Europe. Not only as Prime Minister but also because I was Minister of European Affairs and Foreign Affairs. We also see with the complicated situation of farmers that European issues are fundamental for each and every one because it even ends up on our plates. »
