Shoigu inspects Russian troops who participated in the capture of Avdivka

Moscow, February 24 (EFE).- Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has inspected the Russian troops that recently participated in the conquest of the Ukrainian bastion of Avdivka, the Russian Defense Ministry reported today.

During the visit, Shoigu heard the report of Colonel General Andrei Mordvichev, commander of the ‘Center’ troop group, on the current situation in that sector of the front, in eastern Ukraine.

Mordvichev informed the Russian minister that “during the operation to liberate Avdivka, the enemy was driven from their positions more than 10 kilometers” and that Russian forces were continuing their offensive in that direction.

After the capture of Avdivka, he added, in the “cleansing” operations of the city, “regarding 200” Ukrainian soldiers were captured.

Russian forces hope to capture another hundred, who are still in the city, the military high command said.

During his stay at the command post of the ‘Center’ unit, Shoigu also participated in the decoration of his troops.

This week, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army, Valery Gerasimov, decorated the Russian fighters in Avdivka.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously ordered his military commanders to translate the success achieved in Avdivka into other sectors of the front, coinciding with the two years since the start of the war in Ukraine.
