Kulturhus Kappelborg on Skolevej in Skagen has had an uninvited guest outside opening hours.
The employees of the cultural center might see this on the surveillance already back in November.
The intruder had found a key left in a door and thus gained unauthorized access.
It turned out to be a 46-year-old homeless Pole who had been in Denmark for a year. This is what Police Commissioner Anni Brix from North Jutland Police says.
Suspicion on the part of the employees
The staff at Kulturhuset Kappelborg already had a suspicion that there was a person who visited the cultural center both during and outside opening hours.
Therefore, they were able to recognize the man and contact the police when he entered the cultural center on Wednesday morning.
– We have had some suspicions regarding this person. That’s why I’m glad that my staff have been aware, that they succeeded in apprehending him, and that the suspicion was justified, says Lars Ilum, cultural center manager at Kulturhus Kappelborg.
In everyday life, however, the 46-year-old homeless person did not bother either guests or staff.
– There are alarms on, so it is not much that he has been able to be in the cultural center outside opening hours. But it is clear that he has probably gotten to know the house, says the cultural center manager.
Can be sent home
The police also found a small knife on the man. The man was charged with trespassing and violation of the Knife Act.
The Polish man was fined 5,000 kroner for the above violations.
The 46-year-old Pole admitted and explained to the police that he had nowhere else to be and that this was the reason why he had been in the cultural center outside opening hours.
Until he found the key to the cultural center, he had spent the night in an empty warehouse on Skarpæsvej in Skagen.
He is still under arrest in the case. The police are awaiting a response from the Danish Immigration Service as to whether the man should be repatriated or released.
