They specify that due to the marked decrease in these productions, “a detailed analysis” with cattle owners is necessary. Currently, the provincial capital faces difficulties in guaranteeing milk to the more than 35,550 children under 7 years of age who must receive it daily.

They added that the reasons for non-compliance and other difficulties that persist in the field will be discussed.

Milk shortage in Cuba

According to the state, there are many “problems” in this matter of non-delivery and shortage of milk. Among them, incomplete hiring or plans that are not well designed. Even in some places the actual production is not known, while others do not comply with what was contracted and the milk is diverted to different destinations.

The official Manuel René Pérez Gallego, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Party in the province, pointed out that it is not regarding putting pressure on the producers, but rather convincing them. Rather, he said, it is regarding identifying what they are missing, what their concerns and problems are, and coming to the conviction that it is imperative to increase delivery to the industry.

Currently, 22 of the 31 milk-producing forms in Las Tunas do not comply with their plans. In addition, more than 70 producers refuse to contract with the state industry.

“The objective is not to sanction anyone (…) the objective is to increase the delivery of milk to satisfy the needs of the children who require food,” Pérez Gallego added.
