On February 19, 20 and 21, the Secretary of School Services of the UNAM Faculty of Medicine awarded the Medical Specialization degrees to 2,697 residents who successfully completed the Timely Graduation Program.
The documents were delivered in the lobby of the “Dr. Raoul Fournier Villada”, of the 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.with citations in alphabetical order.
Doctors María de los Ángeles Fernández Altuna and Jesús Cristopher Valdez Torres, from the Secretary of School Services of the Faculty of Medicineexplained that it is a program of excellence characterized because residents meet a series of requirements to be able to choose to have their academic degrees on the same day they graduate.
In a “usual” graduation, the degree usually takes five to six months to be issued (every time they graduate). The advantage of the Timely Graduation Program is that they receive their degree on time, so that they can immediately begin other important procedures such as certification before the different Specialty Councils., obtain your specialist certificate, among others, thus being able to join the labor market. All the residents who managed to appear in this program of excellence began more than seven months ago with the approval of their tutors and teaching heads, advancing all their research work to finish their thesis and complete their procedures in advance.
Proud of their effort
Zaira Leticia Chu Martínez, Pediatrics resident, expressed her happiness at finishing this stage of her life, since “Academically it is very heavy because you have to see patients, study, take exams, write theses and articles. But now I am very happy with the results.”
Manuel Eduardo Aguilera Bailón, Medical Oncology resident, recalled that when he was 12 years old he saw himself achieving his specialization, and now that he finishes it, he advised the new generations to “never lose your goal, make an effort, look out for the patient and never doubt yourself because dreams come true.”
Antlia Castillo Pérez, Family Medicine resident, dedicated this achievement to her children, husband and parents, and announced that she wants to continue growing professionally.“in Medicine you have to study all the time, that’s why I would like to do a subspecialty, prepare myself more for the benefit of patients.”
Manuel Araiza Sánchez, Anesthesiology resident, thanked his family for always motivating him to continue forward in his education: “I’m already in the subspecialty, now I’m going for Intensive Care. This is not a short race, but it is very worth it if we do it with love and dedication.”
