The Syrian government sent an official memorandum to the Lebanese government regarding the towers spread along the border, considering that these towers, which the British established for the Lebanese army on the Syrian border, constitute a threat to Syrian national security.

Information has been reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates received the Syrian memorandum, but the army command has not yet been informed of the text of the memorandum.

In this context, the head of the Change Movement, lawyer Elie Mahfoud, confirmed in an interview with “Lebanon Debate” that “the British towers were built to serve the role of the army in the border region and for the purpose of surveillance, and therefore the Syrian government’s resentment of the towers spread on the border with Lebanon is unacceptable.”

He believes that “Bashar al-Assad’s regime has no right to object to these towers and consider them a threat to Syrian national security, and the memorandum addressed to the Lebanese government is a memorandum of insolence and naivety. Whoever kills, tortures, and occupies Lebanon and inflicts destruction and devastation upon it, it would be better for him to cover up and conceal himself.”

He points out that “Lebanon has the right to maintain its security and stability, and Assad must realize that his objection will be returned to him, and the British towers will remain, whether he wants or not. This matter has to do with Lebanese national security, especially since the army leadership is the most effective in this matter.”

Mahfoud stresses that “the Lebanese response must be by ignoring this memorandum and the Lebanese state must throw it in the trash and not care,” revealing “a surprise that will be announced during the press conference he holds tomorrow.”
