It is widely known that Barcelona is having a really hard time financially. Even so difficult that they are still paying wages to players who left years ago, according to Cadena SER, which Sport refers to.

The radio channel states that the Catalan club had to postpone salary payments due to be made during the pandemic due to the troubled economy. Therefore, several players still receive a salary from Barcelona. Two of them will be Inter Miami duo Lionel Messi (left Barcelona in 2021) and Jordi Alba (left in 2023).

Apart from the basic concern itself, that Barcelona is paying out money to players who don’t stay, there is another dilemma. The salaries are included in La Liga’s salary cap, which is the basis for which players can be signed and registered. The Catalan giants have had difficulties with the salary cap several times since it was introduced.
