Just around two weeks ago, Microsoft solved some blockages that prevented the Windows 11 23H2 update from being installed on certain systems. Now the Redmond company is going one step further and starting to automatically distribute the update to all Windows 11 systems that are eligible.

In the Microsoft developers write Windows release health notesthat the automatic update affects Windows 11 devices that have reached or are approaching end of service; this means older feature update versions of Windows 11. The distribution follows experiences trained with machine learning (ML) to date. Microsoft wants to further train the intelligent ML model to safely distribute the new Windows version in several phases and deliver a smooth update experience.
Quick self-check
If customers have an eligible Home or Pro device, they can now update to the 23H2 update. This can be done by opening Settings, activating “Receive the latest updates as soon as they are available” and then clicking on the “Check for updates” button. As soon as the update is available for the system in use, the option to download and install will be displayed.
The machine learning algorithm sounds like what Microsoft offers as “Windows Autopatch” for enterprise license customers. This is a mechanism that distributes Windows updates in waves and checks whether errors occur. If necessary, he can uninstall updates or parts of them – fully automatically. Windows Autopatch also controls the delayed further distribution to more systems without administrators having to intervene.
Microsoft released the Windows 11 update 23H2 for many in November last year. The update, also known as “Moment 4” or “2023 Update”, brought, among other things, support for passkeys and Windows Copilot.
