Sánchez Varela transformed his life “through effort” and inner work. Her parents separated when she was eight years old. She says that she lived in an environment of violence and deprivation, which instead of dampening her spirits, strengthened her.
Nataniel Sánchez debuts as a solo singer with the song “I am the one who tells you goodbye.” In this interview she talks to us regarding this facet, regarding his hard childhood, In the background there is a place and his professional future.
“I didn’t want to be in that environment, I had no peace, I was anxious and I cried a lot because I saw my parents fighting. We lived in a rented house. We moved constantly. We slept on a mattress on the floor. They were hard years. We didn’t even have anything to eat. I had to work to help my mother, although she didn’t want me to do it, but it was inevitable,” she narrates.
He has art in his veins
He came to television in early 2000, as part of the dance cast of the children’s program “María Pía y Timoteo” on América Televisión. Later, she joined the musical group Sacúdete, and in 2006 she made the leap to acting with a supporting role in the series “Condominio SA.” A year later she debuted as a host on the program “Animateens”. Since then she has not stopped experimenting or growing artistically.
“I remember as a child watching ‘Mischiefs of the Heart’ and I was stuck when Yvonne Frayssinet came out, thinking that I wanted to be like her. I admired her as an actress. When I recorded my first novel ‘Un amor indomable’, she was my fictional mother. I might not believe it. Then she was my nona in “Al Fondo hay Sitio”, she narrates following highlighting that the producer Efraín Aguilar was a key player in her development as an actress, as well as the choreographer Arturo Chumbe, was for dancing, and Daniel Vergara, for singing. “They were my artistic godfathers,” she argues.
There is room at the bottom
The actress acknowledges, however, that she had considered giving up on “Al Fondo Hay Sitio” before its release in 2016. “We had been doing the same thing for eight years. You don’t know how exhausting the pace of work was. Since they gave us the schedules a day in advance, we mightn’t organize ourselves, and human beings need to organize ourselves to have our lives in order. I learned that you work to live, you don’t live to work,” she points out.
“And in 2022, when the series returned, they called me. We negotiated, but there were certain conditions that might not be met, such as time and schedule issues. I needed to organize myself. I lived and still live in Spain. However, we don’t know what can happen. Will I play Fernanda once more? I don’t rule anything out,” she says.
Nataniel traveled to Barcelona in 2019 to study singing, dance and performance techniques. And in a country that is not his own – he says – he had to deal with the lack of sense of belonging.
“I decided to go outside to give the public the chance to get to know other sides of me. It has not been easy. I knocked and continue to knock on many doors. This is a stage of great learning. At first I mightn’t work because I arrived as a student. But once I had my papers, things started to work out. Projects were finalized. I did theater and ventured into the world of teaching, with an online introduction to acting workshop, and another on public speaking and communication. I will also launch a video podcast,” she anticipates.
Singer-songwriter
Now Nataniel is in Lima. She arrived from Spain to promote and record the video clip for her new musical release. “It’s me who tells you goodbye” is a bachata composed by Nataniel, Daniel de Guevara and Jorge Cuba, produced and mixed in the Dch Music studios. The master was performed in Miami by Lewis Picket and featured special appearances by Hansel Sax on saxophone and Okelis on bass.
“My goal with this song is to reach people’s hearts and enjoy life. This is a moment of gratitude,” she emphasizes.
