Dani Alves – former player of FC Barcelona and the Brazilian national team – was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for rape. He was allegedly committed in 2022 in a nightclub in Barcelona.

Dani Alves is to pay 150,000. euro to the injured woman. The footballer claimed that there was no rape, but consensual sexual intercourse. However, the court found that the evidence contradicted this version of events.
The sentence is milder than the punishment expected by the prosecutor. He asked for 9 years in prison for the former football player. It is not known yet whether either party will appeal.
Alves, 40, was arrested in January last year and has been behind bars since then. The Brazilian’s requests for house arrest were rejected due to fears of a possible escape from Spain to Brazil.

Alves is one of the most successful football players in history, with 43 trophies to his name. He became six-time champion of Spain, two-time champion of France, champion of Italy, won the Champions League three times, won the UEFA Cup twice and the UEFA Super Cup three times.
As a representative of Brazil, he won the Confederations Cup twice (2009, 2013) and the America’s Cup (2007, 2019), and also became the Olympic champion (2021).
