Using scientific models and surveillance cameras, experts determined the average speed of the vehicle. As a reminder, the impact takes place between number 140 and number 162 rue des Canadiens. The expert report states that at number 100 the driver was traveling at 163 km/h, but he also drove faster. “During the collision, the vehicle had a residual speed of 105 km/h; it was initially driven at a speed of 174 km/h. This speed was 3.5 times higher than the maximum authorized speed.“, specifies the report.

Other important points are mentioned in the report. Particular attention has, in fact, been paid to braking and the driver’s reaction time. If the driver had immediately braked, instead of simply slowing down, the speed at the time of impact would have been 34 km/h instead of 105. Paolo Falzone would then have been able to stop his vehicle approximately 4 m following hitting the first pedestrian. .

Experts go further. According to them, the driver had a field of visibility extended to 190 meters.

The report also recalls that the procession was not supervised. Experts say the pedestrians participating in the rally were left to their own devices.

As a reminder, Paolo Falzone is wearing an electronic bracelet today. He was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter and involuntary battery in connection with a road accident and placed under arrest warrant. On August 22, 2022, the council chamber reclassified the facts as murder for one of the victims, Gille Frédéric d’Andrea. Six people lost their lives in the accident and around thirty others were injured.
