What will he say this evening to the Senegalese, in front of a tailor-made press? Will he or will he not summon the electorate once more? In Dakar, the intervention of President Macky Sall, scheduled for 7 p.m. UT on RTS, is eagerly awaited, but without great illusions for many Senegalese who are demanding his departure from power.
“We will all have to listen to him to see exactly what he is going to say, to know what he is going to say to the population, but we are not expecting much.“

“Not excited or in a hurry, because we know it will just be a repeat. He’s just going to come and talk to us regarding things he’s already said. We are not expecting anything special, nothing extraordinary from this speech he is going to give this evening.“

Inadequate support
The candidates’ staffs, certainly impatient, are not expecting a big announcement either. They prefer to react following this evening’s statements.
For training journalist and political analyst Sidy Diop, the support chosen by the president and his team is inadequate.
“The form raises questions since in truth, we expected the speech to be more solemn. It is simply enough to reconvene the electoral body because it was he who had issued a decree to repeal the convocation of the electoral body. Personally, I don’t expect him to give the date of the elections. And this is where it is really expected“, estimates Sidy Diop.
Yesterday, in its final communiqué, the Council of Ministers announced that President Macky Sall had asked the ministries in charge of the election, including the Ministry of the Interior, to make arrangements for the finalization of the electoral process.
But there was another confusing sentence in the same press release which states that the president will immediately choose a date, following consulting the various stakeholders.
