Reconstruction Committee is established today after fires in Valparaíso – La Discusión 2024-02-22 18:50:24

The President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, announced this Sunday followingnoon at the Sausalito Stadium in Viña del Mar that the “Reconstruction Committee” will be formed this Monday, with the aim of coordinating the repair work following the fires that affected the Valparaíso Region.

“Tomorrow, Monday, February 12, the Reconstruction Committee will be established that will coordinate the efforts of this arduous, difficult task that will not be short, under the leadership of the Minister of Social Development, Javiera Toro, as “It was also contemplated in this year’s Budget Law,” said the president, in an announcement that had already been anticipated by the ministry a day before.

In that instance, Toro had said that “part of the lessons learned last year was the need for greater institutionalization of the reconstructions, it is not enough for a person to be appointed,” highlighting that the Budget law contemplates “that there be the creation of an interministerial reconstruction committee chaired by the Ministry of Social Development.”

In parallel, the governor referred to the FIBE tokens and the Recovery Bonds, pointing out that they have “6,600 registered FIBE tokens (…), we are starting a second round for those homes that for some reason were not previously registered (…) and “The first Recovery Bonus payments began to 1,930 affected homes, with an amount of one million 500 thousand pesos.”

“As we already have 6,500 properties registered, during the next week we should have at least 6,500 bonds paid, which will be done on Tuesday and Friday,” added the head of state.

In line with these data, the Ministry of Housing (Minvu) foresees between 7 thousand and 12 thousand homes affected by the fire, while the Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) estimates them at 7 thousand.
