02/22/2024, Ciudad Mendoza, Ver.- With the presence of the community and university authorities, as well as retirees and graduates of the first generation, the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Veracruzana (UV), Orizaba-Córdoba region, led held a celebration for its 50th anniversary.
The activities began with a parade through the main streets of the municipality of Camerino Z. Mendoza, where students, graduates and managers marched until their arrival at the academic entity, where they were received by guests of honor and the general public.
In his speech, Alejandro Pimentel Domínguez, director of the Faculty, was grateful for the opportunity to direct a campus with so many success stories and so representative of the municipality and the region.
Likewise, he recognized the trust on the part of the members to the General Workers Union of the Compañía Industrial Veracruzana, SA (CIVSA), to grant the facilities of the La Maternidad building on loan, where the Faculty of Medicine was founded on February 14 1974. Four days later, academic work began, with 216 first-year students, in addition to 25 students who began their studies in the port of Veracruz (generation 1971-1975) and who joined for the last year of their studies.

During the profile by graduates of the first generation, one of the events that would mark the history of the Faculty, which until then functioned with great deficiencies, was mentioned: during a visit to the municipality by President Luis Echeverría Álvarez in 1975, a A group of students dressed in white raised their voices, shouting for him to attend the newly created Faculty to verify the conditions under which it operated.
The protest led to an impromptu visit by the president, who together with the students toured the facilities giving instructions so that the educational spaces were adequately supplied and with everything required, which is why the land attached to the property was purchased and the the construction of the expansion and equipment.
As part of the celebration, recognitions were given to the academic founders and administrative, technical and manual staff, who were grateful and proud.
For his part, the vice-rector Mario Guapillo Vargas mentioned that the decentralization project of the UV has responded to the very configuration of the state territory and the institutional vocation of distributing knowledge, as a right to higher education, a current principle of equity and necessary towards the development of each region of the state.

“During these 50 years, studying at the Faculty of Medicine has represented the hope and alternative for a more encouraging future for many young people, who desired and chose medicine as the route of professional fulfillment and service. “Practically all of us who live in the region at some point have received attention from you, more than seven thousand 300 doctors who graduated from our Faculty.”
Likewise, the recognition was added to the university authorities in power (1974), headed by former rector Roberto Bravo Garzón, to the CIVSA workers, to the management of distinguished academics and doctors, as well as to the participation of the first members of the academic, administrative, technical and manual staff, and students who gave life to this Faculty.
Finally, university authorities unveiled a commemorative plaque for the 50 years of the Faculty of Medicine.
At the ceremony were: Arturo Aguilar Ye, general director of the Academic Area of Health Sciences; Patricia Espinoza García, regional Academic secretary; Diego Chávez González, regional secretary of Administration and Finance; as well as municipal authorities, the Mexican Social Security Institute, the Ministry of Health of the Government of Veracruz and representatives of CIVSA.
