Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases with Epidemiology and Tropical Medicine of Volgograd State Medical University, infectious disease doctor Olga Chernyavskaya said that the disease caused by the dengue virus can occur in two forms: febrile and hemorrhagic, the second is the most dangerous.
— Dengue fever is a viral infection that is transmitted by arthropods. This disease is widespread in tropical countries, explains the doctor. “In our region, it is only possible in the form of importation, when tourists who become infected as a result of a mosquito bite in the territory where the disease occurs return home, and symptoms appear here. In recent years, the number of cases of importation of this infection has increased in our country, and there have been cases in our region. This is due to the greater activity of tourists. When the dengue virus enters the human body for the first time, it causes a disease that occurs in a febrile form, manifested by fever, weakness, malaise, and other symptoms of intoxication. With repeated infection, a hemorrhagic form may develop, which is accompanied by rashes and bleeding. It is this form that most often ends in death.
