At the first meeting under the chairmanship of the Deputy Mayor of Sports, Environment, Energy and Greenery Takis Petropoulos, which took place in the “Aleka Sioulis” hall of the Pampeloponnisian Stadium, the new Sports Committee of the Municipality of Patreon, decided as an advisory body to recommend to Mayor Kostas Peletidis their the following distinguished Patra sportsmen and women for the six places on the torch relay route granted by the Torch Relay Committee of the Hellenic Olympic Committee to the Municipality of Patra:
1. Nikos Argyropoulos Marathon runner
2. Vangelis Gouzouasis Athletics Athlete with Disabilities
3. Nora Drakou Swimmer
5. Sotiris Michopoulos Tae Kwon Do athlete
6. Fotini Plea Pygmachos
The member of the Sports Committee and rapporteur of the matter, Thodoros Argyratos, who was appointed Organizational Manager for the Torchbearers of our city, following the end of the meeting, said: “The selection was made with complex criteria and it was very difficult, because Patraikos Sports has to demonstrate great successes in recent years in several sports. It was positive that the Olympic Torch Relay Committee accepted our request to increase the places of the route from four that were initially to six”.
At the meeting of the Sports Committee, there was also a first discussion on the reform of the Operating Regulations of the municipal Sports Facilities. The rapporteur of the Subject, Vice-President of the Committee, Vassilis Zotos, emphasized in his presentation: “Ten years following the implementation of the regulations and since both Sports and digital technology are developing rapidly, we must, based on the experiences we have from their practical application, let’s see if they need a partial revision or adaptation to the new data”.
The Sports Committee unanimously decided to discuss the matter in substance at one of the next meetings.
