Julian Assange (52) was arrested by British police in 2019 after hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for seven years.
The US accuses Assange of stealing and publishing classified information about military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan and endangering the lives of informants.
This is the largest defense breach in American history. The US accuses Assange of 18 crimes, including espionage and conspiracy. In 2020, a British judge rejected his extradition because the man suffered from psychological problems.
Supporters see Assange as a courageous journalist who exposed war crimes. If he is extradited to the US, he could face up to 175 years in prison.
