Heracles Almelo lost the away match once morest PSV 2-0. An early red card for Bryan Limbombe had a heavy impact on the game. The home team struck with goals from Luuk de Jong and Olivier Boscagli.
Erwin van de Looi’s formation was down to ten men following twelve minutes. Bryan Limbombe got red following a hard foul on Luuk de Jong. PSV got its first serious chance three minutes later. Ricardo Pepi tapped over from close range. Three minutes later the home team made it 1-0. Luuk de Jong was able to head in from a free kick by Joey Veerman.
Michael Brouwer then kept Heracles Almelo in the match with a number of excellent saves. The goalkeeper had a nice reflex in the 24th minute on a header from Luuk de Jong and parried a shot from Joey Veerman in the 32nd minute. PSV had a new opportunity four minutes later. Hirving Lozano’s shot went past the intersection. Michael Brouwer then excelled once more with saves in the 39th and 40th minutes. The goalie first stopped Joey Veerman from scoring and then saved on a shot by Malik Tillman.
Heracles Almelo tried to attack where possible and had another opportunity in injury time of the first half. However, Jizz Hornkamp’s header lacked power. At the other end, Ricardo Pepi headed narrowly wide.
Second half
The picture of the game did not change following halftime. Michael Brouwer remained the most important man on Almelose’s side. The goalkeeper parried a header from Luuk de Jong in the 49th minute and moments later also had an answer to a vicious shot from Serginho Dest. Ricardo Pepi seemed to head in the 2-0 in the 52nd minute, but the goal was canceled for offside. It ultimately turned out to be a stay of execution. Michael Brouwer parried a shot from Malik Tillman in the 54th minute, but had no chance moments later when Olivier Boscagli appeared in front of him and finished with a slider.
PSV then controlled the match, but it was Heracles Almelo that suddenly came close to scoring a goal out of nowhere. Substitute Mario Engels cleverly slalomed through the Eindhoven defense in the 73rd minute, but the bet ended up on the post. PSV then started once more for a while. Michael Brouwer saved on a header from Ricardo Pepi in the 74th minute and needed assistance from the crossbar a minute later for a header from Luuk de Jong.
