Musk has big ambitions for Neuralink

After receiving approval to conduct human testing last September, the company successfully implanted a chip in his first human patient in January.

The study uses a robot to surgically place a brain-computer interface implant in a region of the brain that controls the central nervous system, according to Neuralink. The initial goal is for people to be able to control the cursor or computer keyboard with their thoughts.

Given the rapid surgical insertion of his chip devices, Musk aims to treat diseases such as obesity, autism, depression and schizophrenia with Neuralink.

This company, valued at regarding $5 billion last year,

has faced repeated calls for scrutiny over security. Reuters reported last month that the company had been fined for violating U.S. Department of Transportation rules on the movement of hazardous materials.
