Australia, Mexico, Sri Lanka,… Our vast planet is full of a thousand and one idyllic beaches which certainly make you want to admire the ocean horizon, with your feet in the sand. However, not everyone necessarily has the budget necessary for such a trip or the desire to go to the other side of the world to enjoy breathtaking landscapes. The good news is that our French neighbors have three of the most beautiful beaches in the world, including a Breton one that looks like a lost paradise. And it’s not us who say this, but the famous Lonely Planet in its latest ranking of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, published at the end of January.

Poulains Beach, Belle-île-en-mer (Brittany)
The meeting takes place in Brittany in the Pointe des Poulains nature reserve, in the heart of the town of Sauzon. This small beach has nothing to envy of the Maldives or Bora Bora according to the famous guide. His second name? The Breton Caribbean. It is a true gem of the Atlantic coast that is unlike any other seaside, with its multicolored water and imposing rocks. Its charm lies in the heart of wild, irregular nature.
An atypical environment
Far from the tourist coastlines to which we are accustomed, we discover a hidden corner which has no pretension, except for its magnificent landscape. Here, no trendy bars or catchy music, a delicate and confidential universe opens up to us.
Its coves are reached by crossing a long 10 km walk, away from the town. At the end of the path, the Phare des Poulains stands proudly, testifying to the history of the place. There is also a fort there, having served as a residence for the French artist Sarah Bernhardt in 1894. You feel like taking the road and leaving your towel there.
Two other French beaches stand out
Proof that you don’t always have to go very far to feel like you’re at the end of the world. Calanque d’en-Vaux, between Marseille and Cassis (Provence), and Palombaggia Beach in Porto-Vecchio en Cors, are also included in this classification.
The first stands out for its emblematic views of the Col de la Gardiole. Surrounded by high cliffs, it has in its center a small cove with crystal clear water and a pebble beach. Its surroundings still remain wild, full of authenticity. Only problem ? It always attracts more people and is less easily accessible from home.
As for Palombaggia, it is a real postcard setting, made up of 6 distinct beaches over 3 km. Much wider than the previous ones, it is very popular for its turquoise sea and its stretches of white sand. In addition to lazing in the sun, it is possible to go diving, pedal boating, or even jet skiing. Fans of underwater life can even observe fish. A blue dream.
