A Moroccan trade delegation made a working visit to the United States where it had several meetings with American companies, including IBM, Amazon and Juniper Networks, focused in particular on electronic administration services, data centers, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
During this visit (February 10-21), initiated by the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the Moroccan delegation, led by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform , Sarah Lamrani, visited Austin (Texas) and Silicon Valley (California).
A series of meetings are taking place with American officials to discuss best practices in the use and application of these technological systems.
This trip was also an opportunity to promote the Morocco destination as a regional hub by highlighting the various achievements in terms of technological infrastructure, quality and innovation ecosystem and to present the main strategic orientations Maroc Digital 2030, a underlined Ms. Lamrani in a statement to MAP.
She added that the visit also aims to attract investments in the Moroccan digital sector.
“Large American companies might be interested in growth and expansion opportunities in an emerging market like Morocco,” noted the official, who highlighted Morocco’s strategic location, its qualified human resources and its location. as a springboard to other African markets.
Given that American digital companies are at the forefront of innovation and technology, “we seek to benefit from their expertise and learn from their best practices to stimulate the growth of the digital sector in Morocco,” said Ms. Lamrani.
The visit of the Moroccan delegation to the United States also aims to explore partnership opportunities, access expertise and best practices and attract investments in the digital field, she stressed.
For her part, the head of the MENA region at USTDA, Gretchen Krantz Evans, affirmed that the American agency “is delighted to share American solutions with countries like Morocco which seek to do even more to implement systems that serve their populations and support economic growth.”
“We are collaborating to identify viable projects that can advance local objectives and in which American companies can provide technologies and solutions,” she said, recalling that the USTDA funded a feasibility study in 2022 on behalf of the Autonomous Water and Electricity Distribution Authority of Marrakech in order to transform the city’s electricity distribution infrastructure into an intelligent network.
“We will continue to work with our Moroccan partners to identify future opportunities in digital infrastructure and other sectors,” added the American official.
During this visit, the Moroccan delegation also discussed partnership opportunities in the areas of research and development, technology transfer, training, acceleration of startups and possible avenues for installing “big tech”. players” in Morocco.
The discussions also focused on investment opportunities in Moroccan digital ecosystems, support mechanisms for startups and entrepreneurs, as well as incentives aimed at encouraging investment in digital.
The Moroccan delegation also included representatives of the Digital Development Agency, the General Directorate of Information Systems Security, the General Confederation of Moroccan Businesses, the Association of Information Systems Users in Morocco, the Moroccan Federation of Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Offshoring, and Technopark.
