Before this, Chelsea was able to beat City (1-0) in the 2021 Champions League final, and since then there have been six Manchester victories and one draw – the latter just this season in the memorable 4-4 clash. Well, the London team’s bad streak wasn’t broken on this day, although it wasn’t long ago.
Obviously, Manchester had more of the ball and had smaller chances, but the visiting defense was still on firm feet. On the other hand, Chelsea’s counterattacks were much more dangerous, but first Jackson and then Sterling chose the wrong solution in Zicert. However, the players of the “blues” might not go to the dressing room during the break, because not long before the end of the half Sterling he was once once more in a great position and this time he took advantage of it, giving his team the lead.
Sterling’s goal
After the turn, the scenario remained the same: City attacked, Chelsea countered, and for a while the latter guard was more dangerous, so much so that Ederson had to show two feats in the 55th minute when Sterling and Chilwell shot. Perhaps this was the match ball, especially in light of the fact that City equalized in the first half. Admittedly, some time had passed before then, but the goal was ripe, as the guests were very tight in the last half hour, but Haaland might not score in a good position several times. The ice Rodri broke it, whose bouncing shot found its way into the goal.
Rodri’s equalizer
The defending Premier League champions might have won, as Rodri’s header in added time almost hit the goal from Chalobah, but the result remained a draw. The truth is that Chelsea served him for the one point. 1–1
