García explained that the “Heriberto Duquesne” plant in Remedios must increase its production and deliver more than 100 tons of sugar per day, to replace the defective batch as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the director of Retail Trade in the province, Yoel Romero, indicated that sugar with excess iron particles was detected in warehouses in seven municipalities: Camajuaní, Remedios, Caibarién, Cifuentes, Manicaragua, Ranchuelo and Santa Clara.

Romero added that the distribution of the product in those places was stopped, and affected consumers were instructed to return their share and receive another one in good condition.

User Irina Diéguez Toledo asked other Cubans to do the same test and stated that what she found was iron. Several Internet users corroborated having found metals in brown sugar.
