They propose a reform project to regulate salary adjustments for high authorities – La Discusión 2024-02-18 05:24:36

Senators of the Christian Democrats (DC) and independents announced the presentation of a constitutional reform project with the objective of regulating the annual readjustment of the salaries of high authorities.

The proposal, which seeks to reduce the wage gap with public sector workers, arises in response to the readjustment agreed for the public sector, set at 4.3%, while high authorities obtained an increase of 4.8%.

The initiative was led by Yasna Provoste and Iván Flores, and the independents, Fabiola Campillai and Karim Bianchi.

Senator Provoste stressed the importance that the readjustment for the President of the Republic, ministers of State, undersecretaries, directors of public companies, senators and deputies is not higher than that of the public sector.

He also argued that this should be a reference to reduce wage gaps both in the State administration and in the private sphere.

Meanwhile, Flores expressed his concern regarding the 4.8% readjustment granted to high authorities, considering it a “tremendous political error” and pointing out that the constitutional reform attempts to correct this situation.

The National Association of Tax Employees (ANEF) supported the initiative, calling it an “act of vindication.”

“We firmly believe that this is arrogance and is an indolence resulting from a sense of impunity. And the constitutional reform is an act of vindication,” said Hellmuth Groitt, vice president of the ANEF.

The constitutional reform project will be submitted for discussion in the Chamber of Deputies, where it is expected to generate a significant debate on salary equity and decisions regarding readjustments for the country’s high authorities.
