A Neuchâtel bar recently offered its customers the opportunity to do without their smartphones for an evening. Report in the annex of the Bar de l’Univers, in Neuchâtel.
In the Univers annex, in Neuchâtel, the boss, Gilles Crelier, is testing a new evening concept. He told his project “without a smartphone” on Saturday in the 7:30 p.m. program on RTS.
“I’ve wanted to do this for a long time. As someone who’s always on my phone, I found it very cool to try to offer people the opportunity to separate from it for a while, whether it’s half an hour, one hour, two hours, it’s the same.”
No more distractions or something to occupy your hands when your friend is away. “There’s a little apprehension at first, but followingward, it’s even better without a phone. […] We are more in the present, we chat, we enjoy the moment, we have a little drink,” says a customer.
The report on the telephone questions
Exchanges then take place between the tables. The telephone connection even becomes a subject of discussion. “It’s true that now, it’s becoming a reflex: as soon as you get a little bored, poof! It’s the telephone. Five, ten years ago, it still happened much less often. I I don’t know if it’s good or bad…”, says another customer.
For the bar owner, this second evening without a phone is encouraging. “It’s nice to try things. The first evening was a failure because people were scared. The second, there weren’t many people, but a little bit nonetheless, and then they were people who play the game. You have to persevere. I have a lot of fun doing this kind of stuff!”
