He also said, “We must now end the suffering of doctors who have endured the beatings the government has inflicted using unfair medical policies,” and added, “Not only the government, but we, too, must become the entities that create our own medical policies.”
Kim Taek-woo, chairman of the medical association emergency committee, said in his remarks at the meeting that day, “This is an emergency situation comparable to the division of medicine in 2000,” and “the entire medical community must come together.”
At the meeting, regarding 50 emergency committee members, including Chairman Kim, exchanged opinions on the medical student alliance leave of absence, resident resignation, roadmap for future struggles, demands for government action to resolve the medical vacuum situation, and support plans for medical students and residents. The emergency committee also includes Chairman Park Dan of the Korean Medical Residents Association (Daejeon Medical Association), an organization of medical residents, as a member.
